RESEARCH PROJECTS :

KBIPER right from its inception in 1995 had the necessary infrastructure and expertise to conduct wide variety of research projects in the field of pharmacy. The basic aim of establishing research facility is to provide facilities for doctoral level research work of the faculty and to cater to the needs of pharma industries. The areas of research which our institute can handle with full expertise include:

1.
Synthesis of new drug molecules and drug intermediates. Alternate procedures to existing synthetic steps in synthesis of drugs can also be developed to improve the cost factor in bulk drug manufacturing.
2.
Animal studies pertaining to screening and evaluation of
CNS disorders: Psychosis, depression, anxiety, Alzheimer’s disease, analgesics, anti-inflammatory agents
GIT disorders: Gastric and duodenal ulcers, diarrohea, constipation
Respiratory disorders: Bronchial asthama
Allergic disorders: Adaptogenic and anti-oxidant drugs
CVS disorders: Hypertension and atherosclerosis
Liver disorders: Hepatoprotective agents
Glaucoma
3.
Conduting Bioassay of drugs like Heparin, Leutinising Hormone, Follicle Stimulating Hormone as per the official standards.
4.
Isolate tissue experiments to study the activity of drugs on various receptors such as adrenergic receptors (alfa1, alfa2, bita1, bita2), Dopaminergic receptors, Histaminergic receptors, 5-Hydroxytryptaminergic, purinergic and Cholinergic receptors.
5.
Acute, subacute and chronic toxicity studies of new and the existing drugs or drug formulations as per the Schedule ‘Y’.
6.
Development of drug formulations such as suspensions, emulsions, ophthalmic products, tablets, sustained release formulations, ointment, gels etc.
7.
Stability testing studies for different formulations.
8.
Analytical method development for new drugs and formulations.
9.
Development of tissue culture techniques of different herbal drugs
10.
Microbiological assays for antibacterial agents.
11.
Pyrogen testing of the drugs by official methods specified in IP,BP and USP.
12.
Isolation and characterization of degradation products of different official drugs.
13.
Degradation kinetics of various drugs under different forced conditions like light, acidic and alkaline medium, oxidative medium etc. as per ICH guidelines.
14.
Validation of different analytical instruments as per FDA guidelines.
Research Project Done:
Over the period of nine years of existence of this institute, KBIPER has been able to support different industries with its expertise in research. Some of these projects include:
1.
Evaluation of polyherbal drug formulations for its anti asthamatic potential – sponsored by Himalaya Drug Company, Banglore.
2.
Evaluation of new new drugs for the treatment of depression, pain, psychosis, emesis, inflammation – sponsored by Sun Pharmaceuticals, Baroda.
3.
Evaluation of newly synthesized anti-ulcer agents, anti-diarroheals and laxatives – sponsored by Kopran Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mumbai.
4.
Acute toxicity studies of newly synthesized agents according to Schedule Y – sponsored by Kopran Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mumbai.
5.
Sub acute toxicity studies according to Schedule Y regulations of a new drug – sponsored by Core Healthcare Ltd, Ahmedabad.
6.
Bioassay of Heparin as per Indian Pharmacopoeia, 1996 – sponsored by Core Healthcare Ltd, Ahmedabad.

Estimation of Ascorbic acid content in the formulation.

The Research Center is known for its authentic research activities. A gradual increase in the industry-sponsored projects is a proof of authentic and quality work.

Any queries regarding the research activities are welcomed.

For the preparations of documents for the export of drugs to different countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Russia, U.K., African countries, U.S.A. and other countries the institute will be able to lend its expertise.
